When asked on Monday night on Digi 24 what kind of relationship he has with President Klaus Iohannis, PSD President Marcel Cholaku said he has a purely institutional relationship.

“Institutional. We have discussions when something is related to a decision in the Romanian Parliament. We have no friendship. It’s hard, it’s been too long. Being biased towards one political party and blaming another political party for 8 years and your mandate is completely different. Come on, in the first mandate I understand that your party should support you in the second, but in the second you should not repeat these mistakes. I have no enemies in politics, I have adversaries, but at the moment we are functioning institutionally and we are respected by all the institutions that we temporarily represent,” said Çolaku.

Marcel Cholaku wanted to clarify that on December 1 he took part in the parade, and not in the reception, which was optional.

“I went to the parade. Reception is something optional for each of us. Mr. President Klaus Iohannis did not come to the parliament on December 1. Do you think he wanted to convey a message to me or to Parliament? I set an example,” said Cholaku.

What if the prize ring arrangement doesn’t work out?

Also, when asked whether the head of state conducted negotiations on the formation of the current ruling coalition, Çolaku stated that he had no discussions with him regarding the formation of the coalition.

“After we created the coalition, there was a discussion with the President of Romania regarding the appointment of the Prime Minister as a constitutional attribute of the President. I clearly said what we agreed on, that there will be a ring road and that Mr. Nicolae Chuke will be the prime minister for the first time,” Čolaku said.

Cholak was also asked what would happen if the agreement on the replacement of the prime minister did not work, the SDP leader emphasized that the people would decide.

“From my point of view, we are going back to the vote of the Romanians, and the Romanians will decide, as they have always decided, how is better. I don’t think we can afford a minority government in the next period, it’s a gamble. The SDP, if it is forced not to fulfill the role of prime minister, will no longer participate in this political construction. But I think that the ring road will be built,” said Cholaku.

On the presidential elections: “SDP was wrong too many times, lost four times”

The PSD president also said Monday night on Digi 24 that the priority of the party he leads is to change the constitution so that any local, district or national elected official can participate in the nomination of a presidential candidate. Romania.

When asked if the PSD has a candidate for the presidential election, Marcel Čolaku said that this is not a priority for his party.

“Now this is not a priority. The PSD’s priority is to hold a congress next fall, amend the constitution to allow it to participate, and change the logic for a presidential candidate. I want it to be with elections in every organization. To the mayors, vice-mayors, local councils, district councils to participate in this contest on behalf of the party, so that recognized left-wing people, left-wing personalities can participate in this contest within the party,” the PSD leader said.

Marcel Cholaku added that PSD has made mistakes too many times, so changes are needed.

“PSD made mistakes too many times, if it lost four times, it means it made a mistake somewhere. We have to change everything if we have been wrong so many times. I think it’s time for Romania to have a social democratic president again,” Čolaku emphasized.
