Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda called Belarus’s statement that it would agree without preconditions to the transit of Ukrainian grain through its territory for the export of Ukrainian grain a “trap”, Kyiv Independent writes.
“Belarus’ proposal to transport Ukrainian grain through its territory to Lithuania is just another attempt to avoid sanctions, as Ukrainian grain is already going through Poland and other countries to the Baltic ports. This is a trap. Let’s not fall into that,” Nauseda continued Twitter.
Belarus has informed the UN that it will allow the transit of grain from Ukraine through its territory for export from Lithuanian ports, a UN spokesman said.
Belarus has also asked to be allowed to export its fertilizer products, which are currently under Western sanctions. Ukraine did not agree with this proposal.
