
The soil contamination occurred in the area of Campina Municipality in Prahova County, where crude oil and salty water leaked from a well, affecting an area of 60 square meters, News.ro writes. The environmental watchdog fined the company that operates the well, obliging it to green the contaminated area.
“The incident caused by the demolition of pipelines for the transportation of crude oil produced in the radius of the municipality of Kampin, detected and checked by the environmental protection commissioners of Prahova, ended with a fine of 50,000 lei for the operator who carried out the activity of hydrocarbon extraction in the region.
After inspections, leaks of a mixture of crude oil and salty water were discovered, which led to the contamination of the soil surface with an area of about 60 square meters,” Prahova Environmental Protection reported on Facebook on Saturday evening.
In addition, environmentalists obliged the business entity to urgently carry out work on landscaping the soil affected by the incident.
