The Netherlands reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Saturday after beating the United States 3-1 at the Khalifa International Stadium.

The first goals of the “machine orange” were scored after two phases of indigo attack: Dumfries went into the penalty area, and Depay (’10) and Blind (’45+1) beat Turner.

The Americans closed the gap thanks to Wright (’76, with an easy deflection), but the Batavian closed the table after Blind returned the serve to Dumfries (’81).

Louis van Gaal’s team will face the winner of the Argentina-Australia game on December 9 (Lusail Stadium, from 21:00) for a place in the semi-finals of the competition in Qatar.
