USR President Katelin Drula reiterated on Monday night on B1Tv that the Save Romania Union would agree to enter the government only if he held the post of prime minister, but he indicated that he did not rule out the option of early elections, Agerpres writes.
“If the two forces, the first after the 2020 elections, say: ‘We can’t do it anymore by creating a grand coalition,’ give the Prime Minister of the Democratic People’s Republic of Germany and we will do what is needed again. How we did PNRR in eight months – Christian Guinea, Dan Barna succeeded. (…) We agree to return to the electorate as soon as possible. I have seen Mr. Cholaku promote this idea. (…) It is not a good idea to be in the Order government or just there to tie a halo. You have to develop a program, the measures that will have to be taken – quite hard – in the coming years in Romania. The consequences of this disastrous government will be seen in 2023 and 2024,” Drula said.
He noted that the goal of USR is to win the elections and become the next prime minister.
“People are not satisfied, we want to form a very clear alternative for 2024, and it is our mission and responsibility that in these 18 months that separate us from the first elections, the elections to the European Parliament in May will be a super-election year 2024 ( …) – we want to win the elections, we have big ambitions. We want to be able to form a government after 2024,” Drula said.
The leader of the UDR accused the Government of fueling inflation by increasing public spending.
“We have a model of a cart with two horses pulling in opposite directions. On the one hand, there is the BNR raising the intervention and monetary interest rates and increasing our ROBOR and increasing credit to the people, with the intention of releasing the brakes. On the other hand, the Government increases budget expenditures, adding gas to the fire. Or the worst possible outcome,” he said.
PSD President Marcel Čolaku said on November 13 that early elections in Romania could be held if the rotation of prime ministers agreed between the PSD and the PNL for May next year is not respected, and if President Klaus Iohannis is not nominated for the post of prime minister the prime minister whom the Social Democrats will propose to him.
