Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez threatened the captain of the Argentina national team, Lionel Messi, because he would show disrespect to his country after footage that appeared online.
Canelo angry with Lionel Messi
The video shows Argentina’s locker room as Messi and his teammates celebrate a 2-0 win over Mexico in Group C at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, ESPN.com reports.
As the Argentina captain sings and takes off his boots, he appears to be kicking Mexico’s shirt on the floor.
Canelo, who won four world titles during his career, believed Messi’s actions were deliberate.
“Did you see Messi wiping the floor with our shirt and flag? He’d better pray to God that I don’t find him. As I respect Argentina, so he should respect Mexico,” the boxer said on social networks.
Many fans around the world were quick to point out that Messi just took off his boots and accidentally touched the Mexican shirt.
