The sentence of 14 months in prison, as in the first instance, was handed down by a three-member Criminal Court. A 40-year-old man was found guilty of violating public order and causing grievous bodily harm to things for the common good (he kicked G. Butaris’ official car), and the court decided to replace the sentence with a monetary one, because. defendant failed to comply with the conditions of suspension. An additional criminal case was brought against him for inflicting dangerous bodily harm, for which he was sentenced at first instance to 12 months in prison (again repayable). “I was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, I was not myself,” the 40-year-old man apologized, expressing remorse for his actions.

Also present at the trial was the former mayor of Thessaloniki, who, during interrogation by the court, admitted the accused, because, according to him, “he tried to hit me.” In his testimony, Mr. Boutaris spoke of an “organized attack” on him, calling the former prefect of Thessaloniki and regional governor of Central Macedonia Panagiotis Psomiadis, who was charged in the same case, as a moral criminal.

Mr. Psomiadis was prosecuted for verbal and physical abuse, as well as incitement to commit an offense, because, according to the case file, he allegedly used derogatory and disparaging characteristics of the former mayor, urging those responsible to take action against him. This trial was determined in the sole criminal court of Thessaloniki and was adjourned a few days ago for the seventh time, this time due to the absence of a witness.

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters, Mr. Boutaris said that he had “only heartache” from the case.
