Along with assistants Adrian Artene and Vasile Marinescu, Istvan Kovacs will be the third Whistleblower to represent Romania at the World Cup in Qatar.

Kovacs was the reserve referee for Daniele Orsato in the opening match between Qatar and Ecuador, which ended in victory for the Ecuadorians.

According to the FIFA scale, Istvan Kovac collected $2,500.

Assistant referee – $2,500, group stage / $5,000, playoffs

Reserve referee – $2,500 / $5,000 in playoffs
