A new act of vandalism, the second in a short period of time, took place in the Modiano market, in the center Thessalonikiwhere extensive renovation work is currently underway.
On the facade of the building on Ermou Street, unknown attackers spray-painted on the wall, which the managers of the Modiano market immediately reported the incident to the Thessaloniki Police Headquarters. At the end of September, a similar act of vandalism was recorded on the blinds of the market on Vasileos Heraklion Street.
“The Modiano Market is a monument that will give a great impetus to the commercial and tourist traffic of Thessaloniki and should become an ornament. However, unfortunately, as in other monuments of the city, in the historical shopping center and in other places, the phenomenon of vandalism is observed, which is increasing in all areas. Nobody respects anything,” Thanasis Pappas, Modiano market manager, told APE-MBE.
Mr Pappas added that “society and city officials need to step up to be able to stop a phenomenon that has reached rampant proportions. We will preserve the monument to the city and restore the image. Because if we leave it and don’t treat the problem, a 100-year-old monument will become an unbearable stain.”
At the same time, he added that with the opening of the Modiano market on December 5, all protective measures will be taken to prevent such phenomena, including cameras and the protection of the territory.
