For the seventh time, the trial of the attack on the former mayor of Thessaloniki, Yiannis Boutaris, during a commemorative event to commemorate the Pontic genocide in May 2018 in Lefkos-Pyrgos Square, has been postponed for the seventh time.
Thessaloniki Sole Administrative Court has 12 defendants, including former MP, former prefect of Thessaloniki and former regional governor of Central Macedonia Panagiotis Psomiadis, who, according to the indictment, attacked G. Boutaris with derogatory and disparaging characteristics , calling on natural criminals to oppose him.
Today, the court adjourned the trial of the case due to the absence of a police witness, and a new trial has been scheduled for next January. There were six other postponements due to various reasons such as secretarial hours, legal requests, and also because of the pandemic.
As in previous trials, the former mayor handed over his “gift” to the courts, as he acts as a political plaintiff. In earlier statements, he said that his possible absence represented “contempt” of justice, and when asked what he had left of the case, he characteristically replied “disgusted, only disgusted”.
Panagiotis Psomiadis is being prosecuted, according to APE-MPE, for verbal abuse, as well as incitement to commit an offense. The rest are accused in each case of disturbing public order, damaging foreign property and defamation. Their involvement arose after a preliminary investigation by the Thessaloniki Security Service, during which video footage of the attack was also examined.
In the same case, three other perpetrators of the attack were arrested and tried spontaneously.
