Thessaloniki: High school teacher faces trial for sexually harassing his female students

A high school teacher was transferred for trial to a three-member minor offenses court. Thessalonikiaccused of sexually harassing his students during school hours.

The offense imputed to him, according to the indictment, is the abuse of a minor committed serially and continuously. The case materials include the cases of nine high school students to whom the 65-year-old teacher allegedly “made gestures and proposals of a sexual nature.”

Their parents filed a complaint with the Thessaloniki Public Prosecutor’s Office, after which an investigation was carried out by the Thessaloniki Sub-Directory for the Protection of Minors of the Greek Police, during which the complaining teenage girls (aged 14 to 15) were questioned in the presence of a child psychologist.

In their statements, they apparently complained, among other things, that the professor asked them questions about their sexual preferences and any sexual experiences, as well as that he “touched” them over their clothes and on bare parts of their stomachs. .

The complaints concerned the last academic year (2021-2022) and, in particular, the period from October to February. When this became known, there was a commotion in the educational community of the particular school complex, and the students began to study.

The 65-year-old teacher characterizes specific complaints as false, alleging that he was harassed because he was against classes at the school.

“I’m confused, I can’t question my friends, but on the other hand, the professor didn’t give me such rights,” said the student — not the applicant, who was called for questioning as a witness — at the beginning of the hearing. At the hearing, the applicants were not called to testify, although the defense of the defendants filed a motion, but it was rejected by the court.
