Former US President Donald Trump will announce on Tuesday that he is a “presidential candidate” in 2024, his close adviser confirmed on Friday, AFP reported.

The real estate mogul previously hinted he might run, promising a “big announcement” from his Mar-A-Lago Florida residence.

“President Trump will announce on Tuesday that he is running for president. And it will be a very professional, very careful announcement,” his adviser Jason Miller said on the “War Room” podcast of Steve Bannon, another close associate of Donald Trump.

The 76-year-old Republican says whether he will run “isn’t even a question,” Miller said, adding that he had spoken with him earlier in the day.

“Of course, I am running for office. I’m going to do it, and I want people to know that I’m excited and that we’ve got to get this country back on track,” Donald Trump would assure him.

“Everybody knows I’m running, so let’s go,” he added.

Trump’s candidacy will be the third. But while his influence on the Republican Party remains undeniable, he was weakened by a midterm election that saw many of his deputies disappoint.

Instead, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the new star of the hard right, was triumphantly re-elected. A victory that cemented his place as a potential challenger to the former president for the Republican nomination.

Coincidence or not, Tuesday also marks the release of a memoir by another potential challenger to Donald Trump, his former vice president, Mike Pence.
