Ukraine has already demined more than 64,000 hectares of territory freed from Russian occupation, said Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrskyi, who noted that demining a medium-sized city requires a month of work, reports EFE, Agerpres reports.
“More than 64,000 hectares of liberated territory were demined. We are talking about a large territory, and it is being done at an extremely fast pace,” the Ukrainian minister said on Friday, Ukrinform quotes.
Monastyrskyi said that compared to the pace of experts from international organizations cooperating with Ukraine, Ukrainian experts from the Ministry of Emergency Situations “work a hundred times faster.”
“These are not just nice words, but real measurements. Because every hour counts for the restoration of electricity supply. Very large teams work, we are constantly increasing the number of employees working for us,” he explained.
The Ukrainian minister also noted that more than 60% of the personnel of the State Emergency Service, the National Police and rescuers are concentrated in the east of the country, in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, as well as in the south, in the Kherson region.
“We need up to a month to demine a medium-sized settlement, demining residential buildings, roads, entrances to electricity and heat supply facilities,” he said.
Monastyrskyi added that the Ukrainian authorities are aware that the total demining of the Ukrainian territory will take years.
According to EFE, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the Ukrainian military has defused 266,804 explosive devices.
