President Vladimir Putin on Thursday ordered a one-time payment of 195,000 rubles (3,200 euros) to contract servicemen and those mobilized to fight in Ukraine, the Kremlin said, Reuters reported.

Moscow said last week that the “partial mobilization” of 300,000 reservists had been completed, but admitted there were problems.

During the anti-mobilization protests, more than 2,000 people were arrested, and men with a medical exemption or no military experience were called up for military service.

In a decree published on the Kremlin’s website, Putin noted that the payment is intended “to provide additional measures of social support” to contract and mobilized servicemen. He did not provide further details.

The minimum monthly salary for contract servicemen is 160,000 rubles (2,700 euros), which is almost three times higher than the national average.
