Gabriela Ruse is competing in her second consecutive first-round defeat, following a setback at Les Franqueses del Valles when she lost to Marina Bassols (163 WTA).

Ruse and Monica Niculescu have been drawn for the doubles tournament in Shrewsbury, where they are favorites and will play the team of Nigina Abduraimova (173 WTA) and Paula Kanya-Chodun on Wednesday at 16:15.
