In particular, last Monday (October 24), six members of a criminal organization were detained in a spontaneous procedure in the course of a coordinated police operation that took place in the regions of Ilia, Phthiotis and Attica, and on 26/10 another five of its members.

They were prosecuted, as the case may be, for a criminal organization, as well as for violating weapons and drug laws, and the expected financial benefit from the organization’s criminal activities is estimated at more than 4,000,000 euros.

How did the criminal organization operate?

As Brigadier General Dimitris Davalos, director of the Attica Security Directorate, noted at a briefing held at the Attica Police Headquarters, the elimination of the criminal organization is another key blow by ELAS to organized drug cultivation and trafficking circles. .

At the same time, he stressed that the case is characterized by a special degree of complexity both at the pre-investigation and at the operational level, since, in addition to the hierarchical and professional structure of the organization, they chose the hard-to-reach, mountainous and forest region of Ilya as a growing place.

As for their method of operation, the members of the criminal organization set up the plantation in such a way that it was difficult to find, while they arranged a suitable space, which they used as a dryer for plants.

They still used the house in the Attica region as a place to store cannabis for later trafficking in the wider Attica region.

In addition, they used rented vehicles to transport personnel and growing materials to avoid their identification, as well as working with a resident of the area to monitor the cultivation and inform the organization in the event of an accident. approach to the authorities.

More than 940 kilograms of cannabis were seized.

During the investigations carried out in the growing area, as well as in houses in the areas of Ilia, Phthiotis and Attica, the following were found and confiscated: 941 kg and 322 grams of cannabis, 670 cannabis seedlings, 40 centimeters to 2.5 meters in height, carabiner, watering hoses and hoses, handleless drills, pruning shears, metal shovel, metal saws, etc.), live materials and equipment, as well as several open packs of compression storage bags and two compression storage bags.

It is noted that due to the large number of seized seedlings and hemp and the difficulty of accessing the plantation area, a fire service helicopter was called in to transport them.

At the same time, a team of Ilya’s Forensic Medical Examination was called to the plantation areas to conduct an investigation.

Initially, those arrested were taken to the competent prosecutor’s office and handed over to the investigator, while the rest of the persons arrested on the basis of the relevant warrants were taken to the competent prosecutor’s office.
