The state is the main beneficiary of the significant increase in electricity and gas prices, given that 95% of the increase goes to the state budget, said Gabriel Biriş, managing partner of Biriş Goran, during the Romanian Economic Forum conference on Tuesday, Agerpre writes.with.

“I looked at the main profit from the increase in the price of gas and energy: 95% went to the budget, which means that the budget is the main beneficiary of the increase in gas and energy prices, and now they came up with confiscation. revenues throughout the chain,” he said.

In his view, we are in a vicious circle because overtaxation discourages investment, which will ultimately lead to lower prices.

“There is a need for a lot of reconfiguration of the Fiscal Code. In its current form, it does not work, and this is evident from the very low level of revenues to the budget. The main problem is that the fiscal base has been destroyed by all kinds of exceptions or privileges and more does not comply with the principle of the Constitution, according to which we are equal before the law,” Birish continued.

He showed how Romania is losing competitiveness in front of other countries: “If we look at inflation in the Eurozone over the last 12 months, we see a difference of 6% compared to Romania. If we look at the exchange rate, this has remained unchanged, meaning that the lei has appreciated by 6% against the euro in the last year alone in real terms. If we look at the last five years, it means that we will come out somewhere by 15-20%, which means a loss of competitiveness for Romania, it means that we make our exports more expensive and our imports cheaper.”
