Moscow’s claims that Ukraine is preparing to use a “dirty bomb” against Russian troops are “clearly false,” the White House National Security Council spokeswoman said on Sunday, AFP reports.

The United States rejects “blatantly false allegations by (Russian Defense Minister) Shoigu that Ukraine is preparing to use a dirty bomb on its own territory,” Adrienne Watson said in a statement.

“The world will not be fooled by any attempt to use this allegation as a pretext for escalation,” she warned.

On Sunday, during talks with his British, French and Turkish counterparts, Russian Defense Minister Serhii Shoigu expressed “concern over possible provocations by Ukraine using a ‘dirty bomb,'” his office said in a statement.

Kyiv immediately rejected these accusations, calling them “absurd” and “dangerous” in the voice of its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, who also rejected these accusations, said that they indicate that Russia is preparing a new stage of escalation of the war, and that the world should respond as harshly as possible.
