The capital’s mayor-general, Nikušor Dan, promised on Thursday evening that this winter would be “a little better” than last winter, thanks to the repair of heating pipes and “we will have an additional power plant that will work until Christmas,” News.ro reported.
“We have to look in perspective and every day we are a little better than the day before, after 15 years we were worse. This winter will be a little bit better than last winter, and that’s because we’ve made repairs, we’ve opened construction sites, we’ll have an additional power plant that will be up and running before Christmas, because Bucharest is unbalanced, it has two big CETs in the south, two in the west and two more in the northeast that were canceled. We put in a temporary one, not as big as it should be to compensate for the two, but it will help. Audits aimed at CET are carried out in the summer and we have had supply disruptions during the summer. During the winter, all CETs in Bucharest, 4 large and small, are scheduled to work continuously, and when there is no hot and warm water or when there is not enough, it will be due to a breakdown,” said Nikuzor Dan.
The mayor of the capital added that water losses from the network are lower than last year.
“There is a separate indicator that shows how much water you are losing. This network has 1000 km. The more water you lose, the more holes you have and the less pressure the people of Bucharest have to cover. And the default temperature. This indicator was at the level of 24 percent a few years ago, in 2020 it was the worst, 27 percent, we managed to lower it a little, we reached 36 percent. We need to get back to at least 25. It will take time, but at least we know where they are going. Every month, we lose less water than in the previous month last year,” said the mayor.

However, as stated in the HotNews article, almost every day hundreds of Bucharest residents, sometimes even thousands, are left without hot water and heat due to breakdowns in the heating network. Sometimes the breakdown is fixed after 2-3 days, sometimes right on the day when hot water is supposed to come, after a few meters the pipes crack again, and people start all over again, remaining without hot water. water and two or three weeks without a break.
When asked by Digi24 on Thursday evening if the gigacalorie will increase in Bucharest, Nikusor Dan assured that the population will pay the same price.
“Regarding the total price of a gigacalorie, we will receive an answer on November 1. At the moment, the price is 860 lei, the city hall pays 510, citizens 350. There is no intention to increase this price for citizens. As for the price that Bucharest residents will pay this winter, it will be 346 lei including VAT, as it is now, no matter what happens. It must be said that it is the right decision of the Government to limit gas prices for the population this winter, including for the centralized system. So, from this point of view, we are covered from November to March,” said Nikusor Dan.
