US President Joe Biden said he is concerned that US commitments to support Ukraine could be shaken if Republicans take control of the House of Representatives, CNN reports.

Biden made the remarks to reporters on the campaign trail in the midterm elections, days after House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy said that if Republicans win the House, they may no longer want to help Ukraine, a country that has found itself in trouble

“Yes, I’m concerned about that because they said they’re going to cut” aid, Biden told reporters in Pennsylvania. He was on tour with Senate candidate John Fetterman.

Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s comments were published Tuesday by the political news outlet Punchbowl News.

“I think people will be in a recession, and they’re not going to write a blank check to Ukraine. They just won’t,” he said.

“And there are also things that [administraČ›ia Biden] he does not make them internally. They don’t deal with the border, and people are starting to weigh it. Ukraine is important, but at the same time it can’t be the only thing I do, and it can’t be a blank check,” the Republican said.
