Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz announced on Wednesday that Israel will not supply weapons to Ukraine, days after another member of the government said so, the Jerusalem Post and News.ro reported.

“Our policy towards Ukraine will not change. We will continue to support the West and stand by its side. We will not supply weapons to Ukraine,” Gantz said at a briefing with the ambassadors of the European Union (EU).

His statements were made public after the meeting in a press release by the government led by Prime Minister Yair Lapd.

However, Benny Gantz confirmed Israel’s commitment to continue providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

“Israel pursues a policy of supporting Ukraine through humanitarian aid and the supply of vital defense equipment. I plan to review and approve a number of additional aids, as I have done in the past,” Israel’s defense minister said.

His comments came after Israel’s Diaspora Minister Nahman Shai said on Sunday that Israel should also provide weapons and military equipment to Ukraine amid reports that Iran is preparing to send ballistic missiles to Russia.

A three-way diplomatic dispute between Russia, Israel and Iran over Vladimir Putin’s war

“This morning it was reported that Iran is transferring ballistic missiles to Russia. There is no longer any doubt on whose side Israel should be in this bloody conflict. It’s time for Ukraine to also receive the military aid provided by the US and NATO countries,” wrote Nahman Shai on his Twitter page.

The next day, Russia launched a new wave of attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, this time using Iranian-made Shahed 136 drones.

Despite numerous photos and videos showing the use of Iranian-made drones by Russian forces in Ukraine, Tehran’s government again denied on Monday, shortly after the attacks, that it had supplied any weapons to Moscow.

Also on Monday, the former Prime Minister and President of Russia Dmytro Medvedev, now the Vice-Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, warned Israel against the “very reckless step” of sending weapons to Ukraine.

“It seems that Israel supplies weapons to the Kyiv regime. A very careless step. This will destroy all interstate relations between our countries,” he wrote in his Telegram channel.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Tuesday that he will propose to President Volodymyr Zelensky to break off diplomatic relations with Iran over its support for Russia’s military actions.

The Ukrainian official also appealed to the ministers of foreign affairs of the European Union with a request to introduce sanctions against Iran, because it helps Russia “carry out terrorist attacks against Ukrainians.”
