This week, the PSD-PNL-UDMR coalition is discussing what electricity and gas prices will look like after market regulation, which will come into effect in 2023.

PSD wants the provision to retain the current thresholds. More precisely, the price should be 0.68 lei for household consumers who fall under the ceiling of 255 kWh, and for those above the ceiling, the price should be 1 lei/kWh.

As for large consumers, according to PSD official sources, the price of electricity should be 1.3 lei. It should be noted that the figures and tariffs mentioned above are proposed by the PSD and analyzed by the coalition partners, PNL and UDMR.

According to the cited sources, the text of the regulatory act should be ready by November 1, and the new provisions should be effective from January 1, 2023.

It will be recalled that the PSD has repeatedly called for the regulation of the energy market, although at the European level fixed prices have been abandoned for several years. The social democrats constantly criticized the way this process was carried out.

The PSD argues that the purpose of the return to market regulation is to put an end to speculative transactions in the energy sector and that serious operators in the sector can operate efficiently under foreseeable commercial conditions.

Now the energy market is free, but in the conditions of the war in Ukraine, the European Commission is considering the possibility of regulating the market for a limited period of time.
