The world of modeling is not suitable for older people, but gradually mature models are emerging in the fashion industry. Setsuko Saito from São Paulo, now known as Rosa Saito, at the age of 68 received an offer to become a model: twice with a modeling agency and once with a photographer. She decided to give it a try, and today, at 71, she is thriving.
Before modeling, she took care of others. At 22, her mother. In 2000, her husband died, and she had to take care of three children alone. To some extent, what motivated her to try out as a model was that she had been “committed to someone else” for so long. He didn’t want to live with regrets and thought, “If I don’t try, I’ll never know.”
Saito is a natural talent, showing up in editorials, marketing, high fashion photo shoots. She is no stranger to the catwalk having taken part in Sao Paulo Fashion Week. “I’m still learning and I feel like the more I learn, the less I know. Of course, time passes, but my God, up there in the sky, what time is it? If I had to say how old my soul is, I would say 22.”
