
An investigation by the Ministry of the Interior was launched after 19 year old girl complaintwho reports that she was the victim of sexual assault by two DIAS police officers at the Omonia Police Department.
The Minister for the Protection of Citizens, in a social media post, emphasizes that he demanded an immediate and complete clarification of the case, and if the complaints are true, the prescribed procedures will be continued immediately.
“The law is the law, and it applies to everyone,” the minister emphasizes.
“I instructed the head of the Internal Affairs Service of the Security Forces to immediately investigate the complaint of a nineteen-year-old girl.
I expect an immediate and complete clarification of the matter. If the accusations are confirmed, appropriate disciplinary and criminal cases will be immediately initiated. Law is law. And that applies to everyone.”
According to available information, yesterday, October 12, the girl complained that early in the morning of the same day, two police officers, whom she accuses, took her to a room inside the department and raped her.
According to the same information, the police officers, who were called to the police department for examination, categorically deny the fact of rape and claim that the girl appeared at the police station alone and made an appointment with one of them after his shift.
As part of the investigation to clarify the case, video footage from the cameras is also being examined, which is referred to by the police, and the result of a forensic examination of a 19-year-old teenager is also expected to complete the case file.
