The American bomb was discovered on Monday morning during work in the Bockenheim district, where the university campus is located. It is planned to defuse the explosives on Wednesday, according to the website of the fire service.

“By Wednesday, at 9:00 a.m., about 20,000 people have to leave their homes,” they add.

77 years after the Second World War, the land of German cities remains littered with unexploded bombs, which are regularly found on construction sites.

In 2017, the discovery of a 1.4-ton bomb in Frankfurt led to the evacuation of 65,000 people. In December 2021, a World War II-era bomb exploded in a construction site near Munich’s train station, injuring four people and disrupting rail traffic.
