From 1990 to 2012, Adrian Nestase was a deputy six times and received a special pension. Together with hundreds of former deputies and senators, he lost this right last year, which is why he sued the General Secretariat of the Chamber of Deputies.

It should be noted that the Bucharest court was forced to hand over the case to Adrian Nestace after the Constitutional Court ruled on May 5 that the law canceling parliamentarians’ pensions was unconstitutional.

The consequences of the CCR decision apply from June 10, when the reasoning was published in the Official Gazette.

Adrian Nestase is not the only former parliamentarian who was given back his special pension. Other important names received a favorable decision in the Bucharest court: Celin Popescu-Tericanu, Silviu Prigoane, Dan Radu Rusanu, Ilie Sarbu, Eugen Nicolaescu, Vasile Blaga, Octav Kozmanke, Nicolae Vaccarou, Norica Nicolai, Dan Mircea Popescu, Iryna Login, Mădălin Voicu, Victor Boştinaru, Corneliu Ciontu, Radu F. Alexandru, Mihai Mălaimare, Şerban Mihăilescu, Tudor Mohora, Ristea Priboi.

In February 2021, the plenary session of the parliament abolished special pensions for senators and deputies, but on May 5, 2022, the Constitutional Court declared the law unconstitutional.

Meanwhile, hundreds of former deputies and senators sued the parliament to get their pensions back. (Source: Agerpres)
