
American rapper Coolio’s death was announced by his manager. The artist, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivy Jr., won a Grammy for the song Gangsta’s Paradise. and was one of the biggest names in hip-hop in the 1990s.
Coolio’s manager, Jarez Posey, told The Associated Press that he died at a friend’s home in Los Angeles, but the cause has not been released.
Coolio was nominated for five more Grammy Awards during his career, which began in the late 1980s. He also came third in the sixth series of UK Celebrity Big Brother in 2009 and joined the cast of Ultimate the following year Big Brother, the last series of this film. The show was broadcast on Channel 4.
Coolio was born in Pennsylvania, but later moved to Compton, California, where he released his first single in 1987.
He recorded Gangsta’s Paradise for the 1995 film Dangerous Minds starring Michelle Pfeiffer, and it became one of the most successful rap songs of all time.
