The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced on Saturday that the Zaporizhzhya NPP has been reconnected to Ukraine’s national power grid, and engineers are repairing one of the four main external transmission lines that were damaged in the war, Novosti .ro reports.

The 750 kV high-voltage line now supplies Europe’s largest nuclear power plant with the current necessary for reactor cooling and other safety functions, Ukrinform notes.

On Monday, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi confirmed the “cold shutdown” of reactor number six, the last remaining reactor at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. At the time, Grossi also explained that Unit 6 had gone into “island mode,” providing a low level of input power to the station, but that this was not sustainable.

The two main concerns of the IAEA chief at the beginning of the week were that the bombing continued and the lack of external power to the station, which is essential for continued operation.
