​Bianca Costea won gold in the 50m freestyle at the World Junior Swimming Championships. Romania finished the competition in Lima (Peru) with eight medals (four gold, two silver and two bronze).

Italians Sarah Curtis (25.53) and Matilde Biagiotti (25.60) completed the podium.

Romania, an extraordinary result at the Junior World Championship in Lima

Romania won eight medals at the World Championships in Lima:

• gold at the distance of 100 m freestyle (David Popovichi)
• gold at the distance of 200 m freestyle (David Popovichi)
• gold in women’s 50 m freestyle (Bianca Costea)
• gold in the men’s 4×100 m freestyle relay (David Popovici, Alexandru Constantinescu, Stefan Kozma and Patrick Sebastian Dinu)
• silver at the distance of 400 m freestyle among men (Vlad Stanku)
• silver in the 4×100 m freestyle medley relay (David Popovici, Patrick Sebastian Dinu, Bianca Costea and Rebecca Diaconescu)
• bronze medal in men’s 800 m freestyle (Vlad Stanku)
• bronze at the distance of 1500 m freestyle among men (Vlad Stanku).
