World Vision Romania says that at the beginning of the academic year, an X-ray survey of education in rural areas and vulnerable communities was carried out, and from this it follows that 65% of teachers paid attention to the need for investment in computer laboratories and for other subjects. At the same time, every third teacher claims that investments are needed to create or restore sanitary groups.

The main conclusions:

  • 65% of the teaching staff consulted by the foundation say that additional investment in computer classes and other subjects is needed.
  • Almost every second teacher believes that more money is needed for sports facilities.
  • 44% want investments to repair buildings, 41% for playgrounds and libraries, 34% for sanitary facilities (toilets) and 30% for access to roads to school, including the purchase of buses. 87% of teachers want to implement a hot meal program with extra hours in all vulnerable schools, citing the fact that such a package of services helps prevent and combat dropout.

Why teachers say they are demotivated

Another finding is that more than one in three teachers say they have too many bureaucratic responsibilities outside the classroom, two in three believe the school curriculum is overloaded or not adapted to the current needs of children, and one in two are frustrated by the lack of parental involvement in learning. children or other family problems, such as the level of poverty or lack of education of the parents.

Following this report, World Vision Romania, in a statement published on Sunday and quoted by News.ro, claims that one in ten families does not even have a single device for online learning. At the same time, every third parent says that schools lack computers and interactive whiteboards, and every 10th family does not even have a device for online learning at home.

35% of teenagers never or only sometimes have enough objects and books

At the same time, due to poverty, 35% of teenagers never or only sometimes have enough supplies and books for school. Thus, almost every tenth parent takes at least one child out of school temporarily or permanently to cover costs.

According to the report, nearly half of parents with children in grades V to VIII say they struggle to help them with their math lessons. Every fifth parent believes that it is difficult to offer support to their child also in Romanian.

According to the World Vision Romania report, students have certain expectations in the new academic year: digitization (61%), hot meals at school for all students (56%), additional learning (53%), higher scholarships 40%, investment in school infrastructure (26%).

Two out of ten children say that there is violence in their school

When it comes to violence, two in ten children say violence is present at their school a lot or a lot, the same report also shows.

This reality is confirmed by their parents, 30% claim that there is violence in schools. On the other hand, only 2% of students would talk to their teachers about the violence they experience.
