​Davyd Popovichi will swim on the night from Sunday to Monday in the 100-meter freestyle at the World Junior Swimming Championships. On the last day of the competition in Lima, three more Romanian athletes are hoping for a medal.

Romania has two athletes qualified for the 100m freestyle at the World Junior Swimming Championships. From 02:02 (Romanian time), David Popovici and Patrick Sebastian Dinu hope to climb the tricolor on the podium again.

In the semi-finals, David showed the best time (48.17), and Patrick became fifth (50.22).

So far, at the Junior Swimming Championships in Lima (Peru), David Popovici has won a gold medal in the 200m freestyle, as well as gold in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay and silver in the 4x100m medley relay.

Vlad Stanku hopes for a medal at the distance of 1500 meters freestyle

Vlad Stanku will compete in the 1,500-meter freestyle, our athlete is the European champion among juniors. The final of this test will take place from 02:47 (Romanian time).

Bianca Costea will start in the final at the distance of 50 meters freestyle, having qualified with the second time (25.43). The final will take place from 03:17.

Three more Romanian athletes will compete in the qualification

There may still be athletes from Romania who will participate in the finals of some tests, Oleksandr Constantinescu (200 m backstroke – from 17:46 in the evening – final from 02:18), Stefan Kozma (200 m butterfly in qualifying from 10:08 – final from 03:31) and Rebecca Diaconescu (200 m freestyle – in the evening from 18:43, final from 04:00) for competition.

David Popovichi won two gold medals at the European Swimming Championships in Rome, and our athlete was unstoppable in the queen’s distance in the 100-meter freestyleand also in the fact that 200 m free.

We will remind you that in June of this year David Popovich made a double at the World Swimming Championships in Budapest, he managed to prove himself in 100 and two hundred m for free

During the entire World Swimming Championships, only one athlete managed to win the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle events from the same edition.

It happened 49 years ago, and the person celebrating this feat is called Jim Montgomery (USA – he is now 67 years old). That year, the competition was hosted by Belgrade.
