Garbiñe Muguruza crashed out of the 2022 US Open in the third round after losing their Grand Slam title match against Petra Kvitova.

Iberica, the ninth seed at Flushing Meadows, led 5-2 in the deciding set, dropped two match points at 6-5, and the Czech made an impressive comeback to win in a super tiebreak.

Kvitova (21st seed) won the match after two hours and 40 minutes of play with a score of 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(10).

After qualifying for the 1/8 finals of the US Open 2022, Petra said that she was inspired by the way Serena Williams saved five match points against Aila Tomljanovic (it was the last match of the American’s career).

• Petra will face Jessica Pegula (8th seed) in the round of 16 in New York, after the American outlasted China’s Yue Yuan (142 WTA, coming from a qualifier who defeated Irina Bega) 6-2, (6 )6-7, 6-0.
