
Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehhammer on Sunday asked the European Union to “decouple the price of electricity from the price of gas” in order to reduce electricity bills.
The head of the government in Vienna said that the issue will be discussed in an emergency meeting and that “the price of electricity must go down” and that Russian President Vladimir Putin should not have the right to make daily decisions for Europeans, reports AFP. and Agerpress.
“We need to stop this insanity that is hitting the energy markets right now,” Nehammer said in a statement. He estimated that steps in this sense can be taken only within the European framework, and not at the national level.
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, whose country holds the presidency of the European Union this semester, announced Friday that the Czech Republic will convene an emergency meeting of energy ministers.
