The container arrived from the port of Guayaquil in Ecuador and had the port of Piraeus as its final destination.
The drugs were handed over to the Piraeus Port Authority, which is conducting a preliminary investigation into the case, and their value is estimated at 2.3 million euros.
According to the headquarters of the port corps, on August 24, 2022, during an inspection at the Piraeus container station, a self-propelled X-ray machine of the 3rd Customs of Piraeus found a suspicious organic substance in the refrigerators of containers.
This was followed by an inspection by customs officers from the Anti-Smuggling Division of the 3rd Piraeus Customs and senior officers from the Narcotics and Smuggling Prosecution Office of Coast Guard Headquarters, where a specific quantity was found.
The aforementioned container was under close surveillance, and on August 25, 2022, after obtaining permission from the competent prosecutor’s office, a controlled transfer was carried out by officers of the Coast Guard Drug Enforcement Administration in the area of West Attica.
