Romanian students won several gold, silver and bronze medals at the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad held this year in Kutaisi, Georgia.

This was announced by Education Minister Sorin Ciempeanu on his Facebook page on Tuesday evening, in which he congratulated the “excellent performance” of the Romanian students.

“Congratulations to three-time champion Vlad-Stefan Oros (Theoretical High School “Grigore Moisil” from Timisoara) with an absolute gold medal and the title of the best European athlete! This year, Vlad also won a gold medal from Romania at the International Olympiad in Physics and 2nd place in the world, as well as a silver medal at the International Olympiad in Linguistics,” reports Ciempeanu.

“Congratulations also to double gold medalist Andrey-Darius Dragomir (International Theoretical High School of Informatics from Bucharest)! He also received a gold medal from Romania at the International Physics Olympiad this year,” he continues.

“Congratulations to the three Romanian students with bronze medals: Rezvan-Mihail Ciurescu, Rezvan-Gabriel Marku and Volodymyr George Necula (all three from the International Theoretical High School of Informatics in Bucharest)! This year, Rezvan-Gabriel Marku also won a gold medal on behalf of Romania at the International Physics Olympiad,” Sorin Ciempeanu said.

The Minister of Education also congratulates the second Romanian team participating in the Olympiad, consisting of the following students:

• Trajan Rares Tush (National College “Gh. Şincai” from Baia Mare) – silver medalist;
• Mendel Mendelson (International Theoretical High School of Informatics from Bucharest) – bronze medalist;
• Mihai Bohdan Chokarlan (National College “Gh. Murgoci” from Braila) – bronze medalist;
• Teofil Voicu (National College “Emil Racovită” from Cluj-Napoca) – mention;
• Andrei Dragosh Sirgi (National College “Stefan cel Mare” from Suceava) – mention;
