More than 60% of Germans are dissatisfied with the performance of Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the coalition that supports him, which includes his Social Democratic Party (SPD, center-left), the Greens (environmentalists) and the Free Democratic Party (VDP, liberal), a poll shows INSA, published by tabloid Bild, reports News.ro.

Only 25% of Germans are satisfied with Scholz’s performance as chancellor, according to this poll.

If the chancellor had been directly elected, Scholz would have taken third place with 18% of the vote, behind Economy Minister Robert Habeck (25%) and Christian Democratic Union (CDU, opposition) leader Friedrich Merz (19%).

The ruling coalition, nicknamed the “traffic light”, is also in decline. Only 27% of Germans are satisfied with the government, and 65% are dissatisfied.

The former rival coalition CDU/CSU-Greens-FDP, nicknamed “Jamaica”, enjoys the support of 58% of Germans.

Confidence in SPD falls to 19%, and Scholz’s party ranks third after CDU (28%) and the Greens (21%). 8% of respondents voted for the FDP, 12% for the Alternative for Germany (AfD), and 5% for Die Linke (left radicals).

As Bild writes, the elections in Lower Saxony, scheduled for October 9, should become decisive for Scholz. In the event of the defeat of the Minister-President of the SPD Stefan Weil, the position of the chancellor will be further weakened.
