On Thursday, the City Hall of Sector 6, in partnership with the Order of Romanian Architects, announced a competition for solutions for the development of the island of Lacul Morii and what remained undeveloped in the dam. Mayor Cyprian Chuku said that he wants to break up the 16.6-hectare linear park. The most beautiful project will be implemented and awarded with more than 2.6 million lei.

“Lake Moriy represents a significant advantage that we have from a territorial point of view. Any glimpse of water is a blessing for the city. From the first day of my mandate, I wanted to have a very cool project here. The goal is not only for the residents of Sector 6 to spend quality time here, but also for this place to become one of the main attractions in Bucharest,” said Mayor Ciprian Čucu on Thursday morning at a press conference to launch the solutions competition .

The mayor says he has decided to hold a competition for a solution, even if it takes longer.

“Why a competition for design solutions? Because this is the best solution. A completely independent jury decides which solution is the best, which brings a lot of added value. It was easy to order a design company, but such a competitive, competently organized approach will allow you to choose the best solution! We trust experts 100%. I know it takes more time, but we have as an example the experience of Cluj, which has changed its face for the better in several areas, using quality urban planning,” said the Mayor of Sector 6, Ciprian Chuku.

In the law on public procurement 98/2016, there is this tendering procedure, which is used by all major cities in Europe.

“We are happy when the administrations in Bucharest and in Romania use it precisely out of respect for public money and the quality of life,” says Emil Ivanescu, president of OAR Bucharest.

Stages of the project

The competition is international, which means that specialists from any part of the world can participate. Competition projects can be submitted until October 21, and the winner will be announced on October 31, after which there will be a period of possible appeals. At the beginning of November, we will find out what the arrangement will look like, which will be done by the town hall.

“On October 31, we have a winner. Is the winner of the design contract. The project part will take about 6 months, because we are talking about a large area, good kilometers. Then we have two options: to tender the work on this project or to enter into a framework contract that covers as many elements as possible that the project contains and to put it into operation immediately. The works will be staged. If we finish at least one stage in 2024, I am satisfied, because then, in a maximum of a year, in 2025 at the latest, everything will be ready,” said Ciprian Chuku.

The maximum amount allocated to the project will be 20 million euros, and the city hall will seek to gain access to non-returnable European money.

After 20 years of state of emergency, the Town Hall of Sector 6 completed the construction of the embankment on the shore of Lake Moriy in June. A path was laid on the pier, a fence was installed on the shore of the lake, benches were poured and shaded, a bicycle path was installed, and steps and green spaces were restored.
