Purchase prices for natural gas and electricity remain high. The situation is aggravated by the war in Ukraine, as well as a heat wave that crosses the continent, which negatively affects the production of electricity from hydro sources. All this puts additional pressure on prices, as the volume of energy is insufficient to ensure consumption. The executive in Brussels and European states have agreed on measures to reduce natural gas consumption by 15%, and in many countries such as France, the Netherlands, Germany, Greece or Italy, residents are urged to limit energy consumption. In addition, reducing energy consumption is the only way to control the cost of bills.
In Romania, the topic of the energy economy is still controversial. But given the context, the only way to control the bills is to only use energy when we need it and not waste it. That’s why ENGIE, a supplier of electricity, natural gas and technical services, offers an informative approach and advice that helps reduce energy consumption and, implicitly, bills.
ENGIE tips for reducing electricity consumption:
- Choose to replace classic lamps with LED ones. LED lamps consume up to 5 times. Even if it requires a higher initial investment, it will pay for itself in a few months, since about 30% of the house’s consumption is for lighting. In addition, LED lamps have a longer service life.
- Household appliances that are left on or in standby mode consume energy. Up to 10% of monthly consumption can be saved by simply turning off appliances that are not in use.
- In summer, approximately 25% of electricity consumption is determined by the use of the air conditioner. Although we aim to set the air conditioning temperature as low as possible, every degree below this increases consumption by about 6%. Therefore, choose an air temperature of 24-25 degrees Celsius and save energy.
ENGIE tips for reducing natural gas consumption:
- If you have an old, classic boiler, replace it with a new, condensing one. In this way, energy consumption will be reduced by up to 20%.
- In winter, we usually have a high indoor temperature. However, each minus of the ambient temperature can reduce consumption by up to 7%.
- Avoid turning off the boiler. In this way, the house will be cooled, and subsequently the energy consumption will be higher to reheat it. When leaving the house for more than 24 hours, it is recommended to lower the ambient temperature to 16°C.
