Telekom Mobile has been steadily improving its 4G network over the past year, at an accelerated pace since it launched its new brand promise: “Mobile the way you want it. Simple and fair.” Currently, 100% of base stations have been upgraded to the 4G / 4G+ standard, which provides extended coverage of data transmission services comparable to voice coverage in 2G technology.
- As a result of last year’s work, more than 1,200 settlements with a population of 10.6 million inhabitants benefited from the better quality of the Telekom network;
- See here for a summary of the achievements in improving the mobile network.
Over the past six months, the improvement work has improved the coverage of more than 440 urban and rural areas with a total population of 345,000 people. The counties with the largest number of improvement works are Mures, Prahova, Gorz, Buzeu and Constanța. In general, the quality of the network was improved in 1,200 settlements with a population of 10.6 million inhabitants over the past year. In 42 remote settlements, Telekom Mobile is the only mobile operator present in the region. Thanks to these efforts, customers will have a better mobile experience or access to Telekom Mobile services (in new coverage areas). They also enjoy higher data rates. The company will continue to invest in the network, aiming to provide better coverage and services for its subscribers.
In addition, from August 11, 2022, the operator introduced voice calls using VoLTE (4G) technology for all current and new subscribers of the company, individuals and legal entities, who collectively meet the following conditions: have a 4G-compatible SIM card, have signed a subscription that provides access to 4G technology, is in the 4G/4G+ coverage area and uses a VoLTE-enabled terminal on which subscribers have installed the latest version of the manufacturer’s software containing Telekom’s VoLTE code.
All subscribers with 4G-compatible SIM cards who have signed a subscription that provides access to 4G technology will be automatically upgraded to the new technology, which they can use with compatible terminals when they are in the 4G/4G+ coverage area. The list of compatible terminals is available on the Telekom Mobile website at https://mobile.telekom.ro/VoLTE/. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S21, S21+ or S22 are some of the smartphones compatible with the new service.
The benefits of switching to 4G calls are better voice quality and almost instant connection for initiated calls.
VoLTE will be available for free. VoLTE voice calls will not be charged extra or different than mobile voice calls; call minutes will count as mobile voice calls and data usage will not be charged extra.
Subscribers can check if they have VoLTE enabled by using the SelfCare service available by dialing *100# or in MyAccount or through the Corporate Portal if they are business customers.
The introduction of VoLTE was a massive technological and commercial development with the support of Samsung as an implementation partner. All efforts were focused on fulfilling another promise to improve Telekom Mobile’s customer experience.
