The queue of cars that formed from 7:00 pm on Saturday on the bridge connecting Old Epidaurus with the national road to the ancient theater district predicted a huge traffic jam up to five kilometers in front of the theater’s open parking lot. “We are all sold out,” the festival manager told the taxi drivers, showing them the way. Fortunately, everything went well, with the expected delay, of course, as is usually the case with popular shows. This is exactly what is loaded in Epidaurus. “A popular spectacle,” as director Yiannis Huvardas said in “K” (Sunday 7/8).
“Wild Bees” they mobilized the public and instilled fun and vitality in Epidaurus two years after the pandemic introversion. Because that’s what it’s all about :h “Antigone” Directed by Cesaris Gruzinis, it was an impeccable production that featured some of the actors from a three-year, highly successful television series. Of course, the performance may have filled the hall and won (due to the television popularity of the actors) applause, but this does not mean that it is an artistic success. This requires theatrical technique, theatrical vision and work. Just because you’re good on TV doesn’t mean you’re good on theater, especially tragedy. The main characters of the series appeared helpless before the director and, as a result, could not withstand the burden of the ancient theater. Unlike other actors such as Christos Sapuntzis (Tiresias) and Kostas Koronaios (guard).
Antigone was a performance that seems to have been created to fill the box office, and it was a success at the festival. However, the theatrical impressions have so far been won by two foreign productions of this year’s festival – Alkistis and Agamemnon – which, on the contrary, had the smallest attendance.
Among the cuties of Saturday’s performance was a cute cat that has been roaming the orchestra since the beginning of the show. Maybe her bosses are Wild Bee lovers.
