
Three-time Grand Slam winner Stanislas Wawrinka was defeated by Finn Emil Ruusuvuori in the first round of the Montreal Masters on Monday.
Ruusuvuori defeated Wawrinka in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in 2 hours and 12 minutes of play.
Wawrinka is a three-time Grand Slam winner and has won 16 ATP titles, but has not won a tournament since 2017 in Geneva.
In the second round, Ruusuvuori will meet the eighth favorite – Hubert Gurkach from Poland.
The Finn won their first meeting last week, 6-4, 7-6 (3), in the second round in Washington.
The vice-champion of the Olympics in Tokyo, Russian Karen Khachianov, beat Argentine Francisco Cerundolo 7-6 (7/4), 5-7, 6-3, and in the next round he will meet with Croatian Marin Cilic or Borna. Chorich
