- Taking care of the patients with ophthalmic pathology, the number of which is increasing every year, MedLife announces a new partnership after acquiring 60% of the shares of the ophthalmic surgery and diagnostic clinic Opticristal in Brasov.
- By purchasing the majority package of the “Optikristal” clinic, MedLife patients and clients in the center of the country will receive complete medical solutions for the diagnosis and surgical treatment of ophthalmic pathology.
- This transaction contributes to the consolidation of the regional center developed by MedLife in Brasov County, which includes 16 medical units, including 2 major hospitals.
- The operation is performed by Policlinica de Diagnostic Rapid (PDR), the first company acquired by MedLife 12 years ago.
- To further support the desire to make Romania well together, with care and compassion for patients’ needs, MedLife Group continues to invest in the development of its network and portfolio of services, offering comprehensive solutions, from prevention and recovery to surgical treatment of the latest generation.
The agreement, made through the Clinic for Rapid Diagnostics (PDR), complements the medical services available to patients in the center of the country in the regional center developed by MedLife in Brasov County, thus covering 16 medical points.
With more than 20 years of experience in the Brasov market, Opticristal Clinic includes both a patient diagnosis center equipped with state-of-the-art examination equipment and an ophthalmic surgery center, where more than 2,000 procedures are performed annually. Medical teams specialize in posterior pole surgery, pediatric ophthalmology, eyelid surgery, glaucoma and diabetes treatment. The operating room is equipped according to European standards and is equipped with the most modern technologies, including an operating microscope and an ultrasound phacoemulsification device for cataract surgery. At the same time, Opticristal is the only specialized center in Brasov that performs surgical interventions to correct refractive errors using the EXIMER laser.
The turnover of Opticristal Brașov exceeded 1 million euros last year.
“We pay close attention to the health of our patients and with care and compassion for their needs, we continue our constant efforts to improve the quality of their lives, and development in niche segments brings us closer to this goal. We started with oncology, becoming, after the acquisition of OncoCard and Neolife, the largest healthcare operator in Romania for cancer diagnosis and treatment in Romania. We also recently entered the wellness segment with the acquisition of Sweat and continue to focus on other healthcare niches to meet market demand with proven expertise and medical excellence. Thus, by integrating a specialized monodisciplinary medical clinic into the group, we complement the range of ophthalmic services that patients can access at MedLife branches,” said Dorin Preda, CEO of MedLife Group.
“Brasov is a crowded market, and it forces us to constantly rethink ourselves. Beyond organic growth, we’re very connected to what growth through acquisition means, and we want to bring under our umbrella companies that add value to patients, like
Opticristal, and which will help us have the best possible territorial coverage,” said George Muscoiu, regional manager of MedLife PDR Braşov.
Policlinica de Diagnostic Rapid (PDR) was the first company acquired by MedLife more than a decade ago. At that time, PDR had 2 divisions and a turnover of about 3 million euros, and today MedLife Brașov is a true regional center with 16 medical divisions and a turnover of almost 30 million euros.
Currently, MedLife has the largest portfolio of Romanian medical companies integrated into the group, more than 45, and announces that it will carry out other transactions in the near future. The last transaction announced was for Muntenia Hospital, the largest private hospital in Arges county, the deal was approved by the Competition Council.
