A partial lunar eclipse will also be visible from Romania on the night of Saturday to Sunday, starting after 9:00 p.m. What will be the maximum time? Why do lunar eclipses occur? When will the total lunar eclipse be visible from Romania?
The partial eclipse will take place on the night of October 28-29, from Saturday to Sunday, when the Moon will be in the constellation Aries accompanied by the planet Jupiter, which will be to the left of it, writes the website astro-urseanu.ro.
The phenomenon begins with the Moon entering the penumbra at 9:02 p.m., two hours after Moonrise. Since the Earth’s penumbra is not very opaque, the color of the Moon will not change much at the beginning of the phenomenon.
However, near maximum, starting at 10:00 p.m., the lower part of the Moon will begin to have a different color than the upper part.
The maximum will occur at 23:14, when the Moon will be completely in the penumbra and about 7% in the Earth’s shadow. At this moment, the Moon will be high in the sky, to the southeast. The exit from the shadow will take place at 11:53 p.m., and the eclipse will end at 1:27 a.m.
The last total eclipse visible from Romania was on May 16, 2022, and the next one will be on the morning of March 14, 2025. The next partial lunar eclipse visible from here will be on the morning of September 18, 2024.
Lunar eclipses are much less spectacular than solar eclipses. They occur at night when the Moon is full and when the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon and the Moon enters the shadow cone of the Earth, at which time the Moon takes on a reddish color that it does not normally have. Lunar eclipses occur much more often than solar eclipses and last longer. They don’t have a small “band of totality” like the Sun, but they can be seen by anyone with the Moon above the horizon.
A partial lunar eclipse occurs when only part of the Moon falls into the Earth’s shadow. When the entire surface of the Moon passes into the shadow of the Earth, we observe a total lunar eclipse.
