Elon Musk announced on Friday that he wants to give the first person “this year” neural implants from his company Neuralink, whose technology has just been approved in the United States, AFP reported.

“We hope that later this year we will do our first human chip implantation, for a person who has a form of quadriplegia,” the billionaire told the child and his father at the end of a question-and-answer session held at the Dôme de Paris in front of 3,600 people.

“I want to reassure everyone who is afraid of Neuralink. It will be a rather slow process,” he added.

Neuralink, a startup created by Elon Musk, received approval from the US health authorities in late May to test its brain implants on humans.

The goal of the multi-billionaire is that with the help of chips implanted in the human brain, the brain and computers communicate directly.

In the medium term, the aim is to help people who are paralyzed, have spinal cord injuries or suffer from neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease.

The long-term goal is to create a symbiotic relationship between humans and artificial intelligence that could blur the lines between human and computer thinking. (Agerpress)
