The launch of the first manned Boeing Starliner to the International Space Station (ISS) was supposed to take place in July after several delays, but now it will not happen and there is no word on when it might happen. Boeing again discovered technical problems with the capsule.
One of the technical issues identified is related to the parachute system used to safely return to earth, and another is related to the straps that surround and support the cables inside the capsule. In some cases, these tapes may be flammable.
NASA is in dire need of a backup capsule to transport astronauts to SSI, in addition to SpaceX’s capsules, which are working great. Boeing was supposed to be the solution, but there were many technical problems.
After setbacks and delays, the company finally managed to reach the ISS for the first time in May 2022 – without a crew on board.
On July 21, the first manned flight of the Boeing capsule to SSI was to take place – two astronauts were ready: Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore.
Boeing is working to fix the problems, but it will take several months. The new release date is not specified.
