After Google and Chinese Baidu Alibaba is also entering the fray to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Alibaba’s artificial intelligence language model will be called Tongyi Qianwen and will primarily be used internally. Alibaba’s cloud applications division is integrating it in the “near future”, though no details have been released yet.
Tongyi Qianwen is available in English and Chinese and will initially be added to DingTalk, the messaging app used by those at Alibaba.
A.I. Alibaba will be able to convert oral conversations into written notes, write emails and corporate proposals.
It will then be integrated into a Tmall Genie speaker that works just like Amazon’s Alexa.
The phrase Tongyi Qianwen roughly translates to “seek an answer by asking a thousand questions.” There is currently no English name given.
“We are at a technological tipping point driven by artificial intelligence and cloud services,” said Daniel Zhang, Chairman of the Board of Alibaba.
