NASA’s Orion spacecraft took a few more photos from lunar orbit on day 20 of the Artemis I mission before heading back to Earth. Artemis I lifted off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on November 16, beginning its 25.5-day, 2.1 million kilometer journey to and around the Moon.
“Although Artemis I is an uncrewed mission, what we have learned from the Orion flight tests and NASA’s Space Launch System will help us prepare for future Artemis missions that will contribute to a long-term human presence on the Moon and deliver the first astronauts NASA to the Moon. Mars,” said a representative of the US space agency.
Orion began his journey back to Earth. The Orion capsule flew past the Moon at a distance of less than 130 kilometers relative to the lunar crust, in a spectacular maneuver that marks the beginning of the NASA-launched spacecraft’s return to Earth.
