Ana Bohdan, who is ranked 66th in the world, controlled the first set of the match against Elisabetta Cocciareto.

The Italian made a great start to the second set, taking a 4-0 lead to take the match to a decider.

Despite leading 4-1 and 5-3 in the third set, Ana Bohdan lost three straight games, missed a match point and went to a tiebreak where Coccharetto won 8-6.

For her presence in the main draw, the Romanian secured a check for $3,740 and a single point in the world ranking.

In the second round, Elisabetta Cocciaretto will face two-time Grand Slam winner Victoria Azarenka (26 WTA), the 12th seed in the competition.

Romanians Jacqueline Christian and Gabriela Li (ex-Talaba) also entered the WTA Charleston main draw.

The Credit One Charleston Open is a WTA 500 tournament that takes place from April 1 to 7. It is played on green clay and the total prize pool is $922,573. The champion of the title is Ons Jabert.
