​Returning to the field after the doping scandal, Simona Halep took part in the tournament in Miami and again appears in the WTA ranking. Romania has seven players in the world top 200, but there have been no major changes at the top of the hierarchy.

Paula Bados was eliminated in the first round of the competition in California (category WTA 1000), Halep received 10 points and is ranked 1143.

Sorana Kirstea was unable to defend the points she scored last year in Miami (when she reached the semi-finals). The athlete from Tirgovishte was eliminated in eighth place and dropped five positions in the rating (to 29).

Important jumps were made by Iryna Begu (finalist in Antalya – WTA 125) and Anka Todoni (eighth in San Luis Potos – WTA 125).
