>> A harsh opinion after the case of Simona Halep: “Doping in sports continues without shame. He did everything that led to the suspension.”
Dragoș Nicolae Mădăraș, suspended for violating the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP)
Madarash was also fined $2,500.
The ITIA accused Madarash of violations of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP) after a series of events in which the athlete refused to provide his mobile phone for examination at the request of ITIA investigators, writes News.ro.
Instead of handing over his cell phone for examination, Madarash gave the device to his brother Patrick, who obtained accreditation at the event under the pretense of being Dragos’ training partner. Patrick also refused to hand over the device before leaving the scene.
On February 28, 2024, Independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer (AHO) Charles Hollander KC held a hearing in which Hollander found that Dragoş Mădaraş had violated sections F.2.b (refusal to cooperate) and D.1.l (obtaining accreditation through false statements) from TACP.
Madarash was temporarily suspended beginning August 17, 2023, and the period from that time counts. Thus, the suspension will end on February 16, 2028.
Patrick Madarash, who has no professional role in tennis, also breached section F.2.b of the TACP and was banned from any tennis competition sanctioned by the ITIA or any national association for two years and six months.
Dragos Madaras (265 ATP), born in Davie in 1997, represents Sweden in the competition.
